Description

So glad I've found this! A drawing of the Greek goddess Hestia, based upon a statue that probably was dedicated to her. I made this some years ago, and I find that her face turns out pretty good.

Hestia is the Greek goddess of the hearth and the house, the eldest daughter of Kronos and Rhea and a sister of Zeus and the first generation of Olympian gods. She was one of the twelve Olympians, but when Dionysos came to heaven, she gave him his seat as an Olympian deity, well knowing she would be welcome in each house on the earth. There are no much myths about her, she had no love affairs, being a virgin just like her nieces Artemis and Athena, though both Poseidon and Apollo had feelings for her. But Hestia is just happy to give a warm home to all who need it. In Rome, she always stay one of the twelve Olympians and she had first two, later six and in late antiquity seven Virgins who kept an eternal flame burning in honour of her.
(I'll hope my English isn't to bad :( )
